Complementing a track record of bringing internationally renowned talent to the region and delivering fresh and outstanding ‘nowhere else’ comedy programming, OSN, the region’s leading pay-TV network and Comedy Central, the world’s foremost comedy brand, will host The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah in Dubai to launch OSN’s new channel this year, Comedy Central HD. The new channel will be available exclusively to customers in the Middle East and adds to the distinctive value proposition that OSN provides to subscribers.
Emmy-award winning comedian Trevor Noah, alongside executives from Viacom and OSN, will jointly launch Comedy Central HD (channel 207) on May 7, 2016, in Dubai. Trevor has enjoyed a steady rise to fame through his topical and insightful style of comedy. He successfully navigated the stand-up scene in his home country of South Africa and won acclaim in Europe before taking on the United States. He took over for Jon Stewart at the helm of US satirical talk-show The Daily Show in 2015, where he and his team of writers have gone on to successfully attract a diverse audience to the hit show.
"I am looking forward to The Daily Show with Trevor Noah debuting in the Middle East," said Trevor Noah. "I'm excited to be in Dubai to push the big red button that makes Comedy Central go live on OSN. That is how channels go live, right?"
He will be joined at the launch event by Fahad Albutairi, Saudi Arabia’s first professional stand-up comedian. Fahad co-wrote the hugely popular video ‘No Woman, No Drive,’ which has raked in more than 13 million hits on YouTube, and has performed stand up gigs in KSA, Los Angeles and New York. The channel launch will give invited guests a taste of both of the comics’ quick-witted gags, hilarious anecdotes, and their humorous take on current affairs.
Comedy Central is the undisputed leader in comedy around the globe with a presence in more than 120 countries, a deep library of international content and an increasing commitment to local productions. Among the popular programs the brand will be airing in the region are The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Comedy Central Presents…, Inside Amy Schumer and the animated hit, South Park. The new channel will also feature a dedicated block of Spike content, including the global smash-hit and YouTube viral sensation Lip Sync Battle. All of the content premiering on Comedy Central HD will be subtitled in Arabic.
