The Department of Municipalities and Transport and Tadweer supports National Sterilisation Programme

The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Waste Management Center (Tadweer), continues to contribute to the UAE National Sterilisation Programme, which is being held every night until April 5.

The programme was launched by the Ministry of Health and Prevention and the Ministry of Interior, in coordination with local and federal entities, as part of the preventive measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

The DMT is implementing a comprehensive and integrated sterilisation plan supported by 1,100 engineers, technicians and workers, utilising over 800 vehicles equipped with all the necessary equipment to maintain a clean and healthy environment in Abu Dhabi.

The Integrated Transportation Centre (ITC) is also stopping the movement of all public transportation in Abu Dhabi between 8pm-6am, coinciding with car movement restrictions, to undergo daily sterilisation of buses and public facilities in the morning and evening, and before and after each trip.

The ITC also sterilises bus stations and waiting halls every two hours, cleaning the external and internal parts of buses such as seats, doors, opening buttons, knobs, windows, digital screens and other essential passenger touchpoints. The centre also provides hand sanitisers, and awareness posters and leaflets, in partnership with the Department of Health, for commuters to learn how best to prevent the spread of communicable diseases including COVID-19.

For taxis, the centre requires operating companies to take all precautionary measures and sterilise vehicles operating in Abu Dhabi at the start and end of each shift to prevent the spread of germs and viruses and safeguard passengers. Additionally, the ITC performs daily sterilisation of ferries and marine stations to maintain the highest levels of health and safety.

The DMT has mobilised its full capabilities to meet the broader needs of the National Sterilisation Programme action plan aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19, doubling its sterilisation efforts across Abu Dhabi to ensure the successful implementation of the drive.

The DMT is also working closely with other entities and authorities throughout the country to ensure the success of the program including sterilisation and washing of external bus stations, tunnels, pedestrian bridges and crossings, containers and other facilities.

The Department calls upon Abu Dhabi residents to comply with instructions, directives and guidance they receive and urges everyone to continue to abstain from littering and random waste dumping, by using the designated bins to help achieve Abu Dhabi’s sustainable development goals.
