The Flag Island - Sharjah’s popular tourist and leisure destination - is playing its part in the promotion of health and fitness with the hosting of a 3km recreational race. Taking place on its jogging track before Iftar on Friday June 23, 2017 and held in collaboration with the Sharjah Triathlon, the event aims to attract all segments of society to take up the challenge.
The fun-run forms part of a communal sports programme organised by the Flag Island under the slogan ‘Exercising before Iftar’. The event is supported by the Sharjah Sport Council, which raises awareness about the importance of physical activity during the blessed month of Ramadan.
Through hosting the run in conjunction with the Sharjah Triathlon, The Flag Island says that it seeks to promote sporting activity to all segments in the community. The Flag Island’s management staff are keen to underscore the importance of walking and jogging in Sharjah and to encourage and motivate everyone to live a healthy life.
“This 3km race aligns with our commitment to organising sporting events which benefit all segments of society. Exercise should be an important aspect of our lives, with the holy month of Ramadan lending a special ambience to physical activity. We were delighted to provide everyone with an opportunity to participate in the fun run, which we hope encourages them to change any harmful habits and adopt a healthy lifestyle,” said Khulood Al Junaibi, The Flag Island Manager.
“In cooperation with its partners, The Flag Island is committed to raising awareness about the importance of sports and adopting the best forms of exercise. We commend Sharjah Sport Council for its effective efforts in establishing a communal sporting environment in Sharjah, as well as in creating an effective sporting infrastructure in the emirate. Forming part of its ongoing strategy to promote health and fitness, this activity will be an annual event at The Flag Island,” she noted.
The Flag Island has recently expanded its infrastructure to receive more sportspersons and those who wish to exercise outdoors, as well asthose wanting to participate in the variety of activities that are held at the venue. The destination inaugurated a new 600m jogging track, which is made from premium sustainable materials to the highest international standards. The development also includes high quality natural landscaping and an array of first class facilities to cater to visitors and residents of all ages.
