The Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs organises session on ‘Culture of Political Participation’ session in Sharjah

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote political awareness and develop a culture of political participation in the society, the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs (MFNCA) organised a session titled, ‘Culture of Political Participation,’ as part of the sixth edition of the "Majlis" initiative, at Al Siyouh Suburb Council in Sharjah.

During the session, Dr. Mohammed Al Shamsi addressed a number of important topics, such as the definition, features, aspects, characteristics and principles of political participation in the UAE, as well as the phases and elements of the participation.

Al Shamsi stressed that the session is in line with MFNCA’s strategy and its ongoing initiatives to promote awareness of the importance of political participation at the national level, strengthen a culture of political participation among citizens, highlight various aspects of political participation, underline the achievements of parliamentary action over the past 50 years, and reiterate the concepts of good citizenship, homeland and leadership.

Al Shamsi highlighted the empowerment process pursued by the wise leadership and the role of UAE citizens in national decision-making process, which enables Emiratis to actively contribute to the country’s development and prosperity in all fields and sectors, and build on its achievements. Al Shamsi said the political empowerment programme announced by the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan in 2005 contributed directly to the promotion of citizens' participation in national action by holding the first elections to select half the membership of the Federal National Council (FNC) in 2006 and succeeding achievements in the subsequent elections in 2011, 2015 and 2019.

Al Shamsi added that the UAE leadership is keen to make citizens its top priority and enable them to participate in decision-making. It has worked to consolidate the values and pillars of political development among individuals. Additionally, the leaders have employed all tools to upgrade the abilities of the citizens and refine their talents, to enable them to participate in building the country and complement the achievements.

MFNCA continuously launches qualitative initiatives aimed at reaching out to all segments of the society to promote a culture of political participation and promote the nature of parliamentary life in the UAE. The "Majlis" initiative promotes liaisons with the nationals and serves as a means of sharing with them the objectives, ambitions and aspirations of the Ministry; as well as contributing to the promotion of political awareness and the importance of active participation in the elections of the FNC, which contributes to advancing the prosperity and development of the country in line with the directives and vision of the wise UAE leadership towards the UAE Centennial.
