A high-level government delegation from Uzbekistan arrived in the UAE on a week-long visit to acquire insights into the nation’s pioneering experience in government modernization.
Led by his Excellency Aziz Abdukhakimov, Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, the delegation of 67 government officials will commence implementing the partnership agreement in government modernization that was signed between the UAE and Uzbekistan in April 2019.
The delegation visit will coincide with the launch of 57 joint initiatives that target exchange of experience and best practices in government work between the two countries with a focus on developing services, improving institutional performance, building leadership and enhancing competencies, as well as implementing a work system based on innovation and quality through the transfer of government expertise and knowledge.
The delegation will participate in a series of workshops to review the 17 areas covered in the partnership agreement and tour several government entities across the country.
Speaking on the occasion, His Excellency Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future, said: “Under the leadership of the UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and as per the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the UAE has become a global hub of government modernization due to its wealth of expertise in this field.”
He added: “The UAE government model is exportable and replicable, and we are working with a group of friendly countries that are keen to adopt it.”
The visit of the Uzbek delegation, including representatives of the social, economic, services, health, education, science, transportation, tourism and investment sectors, takes place less than a month after the signing of the strategic partnership agreement between the governments of the UAE and Uzbekistan.
Under the partnership, the two countries seek to facilitate exchange of experience, expertise and development models in government work, as well as application of best practices in the fields of government and smart services, institutional performance, innovation and excellence, and leadership and capacity building. The agreement also mandates the formation of working groups and deployment of experts to support joint initiatives and projects in the areas of government accelerators, government quality, government services, smart government applications, strategy and national plans, government performance, government innovation, leadership programs, programming, future education and economy, global competitiveness and ease of doing business.
Relations between the UAE and Uzbekistan have witnessed an upsurge since the first visit of His Excellency Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Uzbekistan, to the UAE in March 2019 and the signing of the three-year partnership agreement to modernize government work and improve government performance in Uzbekistan in April 2019. The agreement was signed during the visit of a UAE delegation to the Uzbek capital Tashkent, when the two countries agreed to form joint task forces to address the 17 focal points of the agreement.
