Saudi Arabia’s athletes gave it their all on the penultimate day of the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019. Athletes proudly represented their country in athletics, basketball, bocce, and swimming. At just 11 years old, Juri AlQuthmi became the team’s youngest gold medal winner when she came first in the Standing Long Jump athletics event. Bashayr Sawwaf won Saudi Arabia’s first silver medal in athletics, in Standing Long Jump. Mohammed Alrefai won gold in 100m run, and Faisal Algosaibi won gold in 25m backstroke. Excitement is building for the final day of the games, which will see the men and women’s unified basketball teams compete in their final matches, amongst other events.
