World Record Attempt on International Friendship Day

Oman Air is to celebrate international Friendship Day by launching a spectacular Guinness World Record attempt on July 30, 2015. People from around the world are invited to post their own pictures of family members, friends and colleagues holding hands on the campaign website www.befriendtheworld.com. All participants can share their picture on social media and have the chance to win return flights on the Oman Air network until end of October 2015.

Oman Air has already taken pictures of almost 400 people from over 35 nations at Expo Milano 2015. Each image depicts its subjects holding hands in a sign of peace and friendship. The images can now be seen on the campaign website www.befriendtheworld.com

Oman Air has registered the record attempt for “The most people holding hands in an online image chain” with Guinness World Records. By the end of October 2015, the national airline of the Sultanate of Oman aims to have more than ten thousand pictures of people holding hands, from dozens of nations around the globe.

Each participant will be entered into a prize draw, with the chance of winning 2 return flights from any destination within Oman Air’s network to Muscat. In total, there will be six tickets for three lucky winners.

Mohammed Al Shikely, General Manager Marketing for Oman Air, says:

“As an international airline, and as a 21st Century expression of the Omani culture of friendship and hospitality, Oman Air connects people, countries and continents. This lead us to the idea of bringing people together from all over the world by connecting them on the web – and setting a new world record in doing so. With our digital human chain we want to promote friendship across boarders via social media. The International Day of Friendship is the perfect opportunity to share our internet experiment with the world.

“We would be thrilled to set a new Guinness World Record, and with the response we are getting so far, we are optimistic about our success. I would urge everyone to take part and play a vital role in creating this world record. In doing so, every participant shows that the world can be connected in friendship.”
