The Ministry of Water and Electricity will begin applying the new tariffs on water on Monday. The new charges were announced two weeks ago by Water and Electricity Minister Abdullah Al-Hussayen.
Sources reveal the ministry will begin issuing bills monthly, rather than every three months, so as to prevent customers from being burdened with hefty bills.
The ministry is expected to announce further details about the new tariffs on its website soon. There will be explanations of the new prices, as well as an awareness campaign targeting all members of society to inform them of ways of reducing their bills.
For those who economize, water will cost 0.15 halalas per cubic meter which is less than one-third of the real cost that the state bears. For those whose water usage per day is less than 30 cubic meters, the charge will be SR1 per day or about SR24 per month. As water usage increases, costs will also increase.
