Empower goes green by implementing E-Bills

In line with Dubai Smart Vision and keeping up with the long-term ‘A Green Economy for Sustainable Development’ national initiative, Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, will stop issuing printed paper bills for all its 65,000 customers as of this month (December 2016).

“This step comes out from Empower’s policy of replacing paper bills with electronic bills, so as to reduce the amount of paper and thus save on trees and ultimately lessening the carbon footprint and helping combating global climate change,” said HE Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower.

Empower believes that green bills help transfer data in a quick and efficient manner, save time and preserve natural resources that needed to be consumed in issuing paper bills. Earlier, the company announced the adoption of bill payment service through mPay app of Dubai smart Government which provides easy and safe digital payment service using credit or debit cards or using smart phones. Expectedly, this move enhances the pace of payments as it improves the quality of services. In addition, customers can now pay Empower bills by using ‘DubaiNow’ mobile application’, another Dubai Smart Government initiative that includes more than 50 smart services provided by most of the government organisations in Dubai.

“Today, we are continuing the electronic payment move as the two steps are in line with the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, as they reinforce Smart City initiative to convert all the services and payment methods to digital in the Emirate of Dubai,” said HE Bin Shafar.

Empower will begin to issue around 65,000 bills digitally through its website, for its 65,000 customers who are registered for online payment service, and payment via smartphones. Empower’s green bill campaign has been launched in response to a customer satisfaction survey conducted previously by the company. The aim of the green bill campaign is to create awareness among customers and inform them about the green bill benefits, making the process of payment easier, faster, and enable customers to access their bills 24/7 as customers can pay their due payments via Internet at any time, from anywhere.

”In line with our leadership vision on sustainability processes, we have launched green bills. This contributes in the smart move of the UAE and Dubai to make government transactions more efficient and easy,” added HE Bin Shafar.

Commenting on the efficiency of Empower E-bill Payment system, HE Bin Shafar said: “We always strive to improve our services by deploying latest technologies for easy and safe payment processes. The aim behind scrapping paper bills is to raise the levels of efficiency, paper usage, achieve happiness for customers as well as saving natural resources by reducing reliance on paper.”

HE Bin Shafar said that this move is directly in line with Dubai government’s Smart Governance directives to develop easy and secure ways to pay for services and bills, and in order to implement the vision ‘A Green Economy for Sustainable Development’.

Empower always seek to develop smart services within its futuristic  vision to speed up routine procedures and save customers’ time to come to service centres for completing transactions. Customers can view the entire record of their monthly bills, as well as the payment history, at www.empower.ae.

Empower currently operates more than 1.2 million tons of cooling capacity, providing environmentally responsible district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments, such as Jumeirah Group, Business Bay, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai International Financial Centre, Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Ibn Battuta Mall, Discovery Gardens, Dubai Healthcare City, Dubai World Trade Centre Residences and Dubai Design District, among others.
