The Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), world’s largest district cooling company, announced its sponsorship of the World Green Economy Summit (WGES) 2016 as a Global Partner. WGES will be held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.
Under the theme “Driving Global Green Economy”, the summit will take place during 5-6 October 2016, at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
“Our sponsorship of the summit is part of the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to diversify energy sources in Dubai. It also supports Dubai Plan 2021 that aims to ensure the environmental elements in Dubai are clean, healthy and sustainable,” said HE Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower.
He added that Empower’s sponsoring of this summit demonstrates its commitment to enhancing the elements of the green economy globally and putting more emphasis on Dubai's position as a global hub of sustainable development. The company is always keen to apply latest systems and technology in district cooling, which is one of the most important pillars of the transition to a green economy, due to the huge demand for cooling services within Dubai and the UAE that take major share of energy consumption especially during the summer.
“We are committed to the district cooling sector globally through the adoption of initiatives by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and several international organisations. We participate in major international energy events in order to review the latest technologies and techniques in the field of district cooling and have a close look into the industry’s expertise,” emphasized Bin Shafar.
The company’s efforts are gaining positive results now through realistic and concrete achievements. It devises comprehensive solutions in the core areas to ensure the transition towards a green economy. Recently, Empower achieved LEED Gold Certification from the US Green Building Council for its warehouse located in Al Qouz. This reflects the pioneering role of the company and its leading sustainable design model.
“In addition to that, Empower achieved significant results in saving electricity and water consumption each year through the initiatives that raise awareness of customers about the need to rationalise consumption. Our summer campaign, ‘Saving Starts at 24°C’ that we organise every year, has had a profound impact on the rates of consumption in district cooling service,” he added.
Empower is on a mission to expand its operation footprint in Dubai significantly to include many new areas, where it is expected that developments in Dubai will switch their cooling systems into district cooling to enhance the transition towards a green economy and decrease a tremendous amount of energy consumptions each year.
“Empower adopts a clear strategy to become a leader in the transition towards sustainable growth in Dubai. We are confident that we are moving forward to contribute to the UAE’s transition towards a green economy as per the direction of the wise leadership of the UAE,” he concluded.
Empower currently operates more than 1,100,000 refrigeration tonnes (RT), providing environmentally responsible district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments, such as Jumeirah Group, Business Bay, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai International Financial Centre, Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Ibn Battuta Mall, Discovery Gardens, Dubai Healthcare City, Dubai World Trade Centre Residences and Dubai Design District, among others.
