On the afternoon of July 29th, the JAC Italian design center celebrated its ten-year anniversary in Turin.
The JAC Italian Research & Development (R&D) center in Italy is a world-class independent R&D base that makes full use of the Italian automobile industry’s human resources and technologies to create globally advanced automobile designs and processes, as well as introduce world-class parts and technologies. The center also has the role of building JAC’s brand image and reputation, in addition to preparing JAC passenger vehicles for the global market.
In the past 10 years, the JAC R&D center has integrated the world’s most advanced design concepts to manufacture models such as SUV S5, MPV M5, Sedan J4, Compact SUV S3, Compact SUV S2, and Sedan A60, amongst others, which have been satisfying demand from the global market. It is also worth mentioning that SC-9 defeated other major European luxury cars to successfully enter the Italian National Automobile Museum. The JAC R&D center has not only made great contributions to JAC’s passenger car development, but also set a valuable example for Chinese enterprises interested in establishing R&D institutions in Italy. In addition, in 2005, the JAC R&D center was awarded the Italy-China Fund Institute’s Best Chinese Enterprise Award. And finally, in 2012, it was elected as one of the Top 6 Global Auto Design institutions by one of the world’s biggest auto magazines QUATTRORUOTE.
According to An Jin, Chairman of JAC, “JAC has maintained a steady and rapid development momentum under the joint efforts of all JAC staff. Its products have been sold to more than 120 countries and regions in the world, including Italy.” In the first half of the year, despite a sharp decline in China's auto industry, JAC sold 292,000 units of various types of vehicles, increasing 16% year-on-year, and generated a sales income of RMB 23.542 billion, with a growth rate nearly 10% higher than the industry’s average in China. Additionally, during the first half of 2015, the sales of passenger cars jumped by 80%, far above China’s auto industry growth, making JAC the fastest-growing auto company. Finally, during the first half of this year, JAC S3 — designed and developed by JAC’s Italy R&D center — was ranked No. 1 in terms of sales volume in the compact SUV category.
The JAC Italian design center was founded on June 15th, 2005, and was the first Italian R&D center of a Chinese automobile company. In the past 10 years, the JAC R&D center starting with a staff of only four people and a 40-square meter office has grown into the current design team with a staff of over one hundred people from 12 countries and an office space of over 5,000 square meters.
