New Treatments for Management of Type 2 Diabetes

As part of their commitment to raise awareness amongst the doctors in KSA about the new treatments for the management of Type 2 Diabetes, Boehringer Ingelheim, a leading pharmaceutical company, conducted lectures around the country and introduced the new DDP-4 inhibitor treatment. The 15-hour outreach program reached over 950 doctors in 4 cities, including Dammam, Riyadh, Jeddah and Abha.

Dr. Saud Al Sifri, Consultant Endocrinologist, Chairman of Internal Medicine and Director of Diabetes Centre, Al Hada Armed Forces Hospital, Taif Saudi Arabia explained to the doctors how the DPP-4 inhibitor works by increasing hormones from intestine that stimulate the pancreas to produce more insulin and decrease the glucose production from the liver in glucose dependent manner. Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) is the most common form of diabetes often leading to chronic complications like cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, eye disease, liver disease and nerve damage.

The new treatment by Boehringer Ingelheim will provide doctors with a safer and effective treatment approach, which can achieve effective blood sugar control while having minimal effect on vital organs like the kidney and heart. The new therapy is proving to be an effective modern tool in helping in overall glycemic management and improving the quality of patient lives in diabetes therapy.

Mohamed Bayoumy, Country Head, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Boehringer Ingelheim explained, “The effort marks our commitment towards equipping the healthcare practitioners in Saudi Arabia with solutions that can best benefit their patients. In KSA, diabetes management will continue to be a major therapy focus area for the company, especially since the condition is highly prevalent in the country. We believe that the new treatment will help the people to effectively manage their condition and address some of the associated challenges.”
