Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC) has announced that the fourth edition of its ‘Sharjah Ladies Run’ is now open for registration. Comprising a 5km and 10km race and held in the early hours of the evening, the event will take place next to the Skyline University at Sharjah University City on February 24, 2017.
“The Neon Run is an annual event held in line with the vision of wife of His Highness Ruler of Sharjah, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of Supreme Council for Family Affairs and Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Vice-Chairperson of SLC, to promote a healthy lifestyle for families’ members and to encourage the idea that sport should be a regular activity and not a marginal one,” said Khawla Al Serkal, Director General, SLC.
"Sharjah Ladies Run is one of the biggest events organised by SLC. It is now firmly established as a popular annual event on its calendar, with a growing number of enthusiastic women participating each year. The second edition of the run registered a 100% increase over the first edition held in 2014 - this makes us optimistic that the fourth edition of the Run will see a tremendous turnout," she added.
Al Serkal pointed out that SLC has developed a clear and far-reaching strategy to promote women's health, with the Sharjah Ladies Run just one of its many activities. She emphasised that the organisation has an integrated sports and fitness programme that features a variety of initiatives, such as the Sharjah Ladies Duathlon event, which combines running and cycling.
Sharjah Ladies Run has had a significant impact on the community, with its first edition winning the ‘Best Sporting Event’ award in the Fit Awards 2014. The accolade added to the array of achievements and successes SLC has garnered since its inception in 1982.
Those who are interested in participating in the Run can register online at www.slc.ae. Taking place from 6-9pm, the event is open to women and to girls over the age of 12 years. The registration fee for the 5km event is AED100 and for the 10km event AED160. Interested parties can contact 06 506 7701 for further information.
