The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) approved during 2019 a total of 682 Saudi standards, including 218 newly introduced standards, 450 updated or modified standards and 14 translated standards.
“The authority is constantly preparing and moderating Saudi standards for locally manufactured or imported products to meet the standard requirements achieving safety and performance efficiency. It also participates in preparing Gulf, Arab and international standards,” SASO’s deputy governor, Tamis Al-Hammadi, told Arab News.
“SASO is keen on meeting all urgent requests it receives from various sectors in the Kingdom,” he said, adding: “During 2019, it focused on preparing technical regulations and standard specifications in accordance to the Kingdom’s strategic directions, in addition to the most important axis that is the consumer safety. SASO is also keen to stay informed on amendments and updates on standards issued by international organizations, and which the authority has previously adopted.”
According to SASO data, the total number of Saudi standards approved by the organization since its inception until 2019 has reached 30,079.
