Sources in the Royal Commission for Riyadh City said that the completion rate of the “Riyadh Train” project has reached 92%.
The sources added, in statements to Al Arabiya TV, that the construction and civil works on the project had been completely completed, and the project had succeeded in supplying and testing more than 180 trains.
The sources pointed out that the train operations have reached advanced stages, during which the trains have traveled about 2 million km on all tracks.
It is noteworthy that the Riyadh electric train, known as the “Riyadh Metro”, is part of the King Abdulaziz Public Transport Project in Riyadh, which consists of trains and buses, and six major metro lines have been established that penetrate the capital Riyadh from all directions, and include 85 stations.
In connection with the project, statistics studies indicate an expected growth of the population of Riyadh from 6 million people currently to more than 8.5 million over the next ten years, which requires providing more effective alternatives to meet the existing and expected mobility requirements in the city.
While the project’s studies confirm its contribution to reducing the number of car trips by approximately 250 thousand trips per day, and saving the equivalent of 400,000 liters of fuel per day, thus reducing the percentage of air polluting emissions.
