The Saudi Sports Media Federation gives two aspiring journalists the experience of a lifetime at the 2021 Diriyah E-Prix

 Two young aspiring journalists invited by the Ministry of Sport and the Saudi Arabian Sports Media Federation enjoyed an unforgettable experience at the ABB FIA Formula E 2021 Diriyah E-Prix held last weekend. The one-of-a-kind invitation comes as part of the ‘Promising Media Professional Development Program’, which aims to support and grow the next generation of Saudi Arabian journalists, reporters and presenters.

Following a selection process in which over 10 aspiring recent graduates submitted a 45-60 second video detailing their passion for sports and the reasons behind why they should be nominated for this unique opportunity, Al Imam Bin Saud Islamic University graduates Assaf Al Khulayfi, 23, and Mohammed Al Ruwayshed, 22, were the two lucky winners chosen by a judging panel. The young journalists accompanied a total of 130 media representatives from 8 different countries at the purpose-built media centre throughout the two days.

The Diriyah E-Prix captured global attention following an action-packed weekend which saw a season-opening Diriyah double header under the floodlights. The races were broadcast across 40 channels in 150 countries across the world. Due to coronavirus restrictions, no fans were able to attend the races, but viewers across Saudi Arabia and the Middle East enjoyed extensive coverage on KSA Sports.

Speaking live in an interview with host broadcaster KSA Sports during the event, Al Khulayfi said: “As aspiring media professionals, we have been provided with the upmost support since the inception of the Saudi Sports Media Federation. I am very proud to have been given this amazing opportunity, especially as it is the first ever Formula E night race”

Commenting on his experience, Al Ruwayshed added: “I am very proud to have been chosen by the federation to live the experience of a media professional for the weekend. This is my first experience at a Formula E race, I’ve learned a lot and enjoyed every minute of it.”

The third Diriyah E-Prix witnessed unmissable action which saw Mercedes-EQ's Nyck de Vries take a first Formula E win in the opening Round of Season 7, besting Diriyah at night to head home Edo Mortara (ROKiT Venturi Racing) - by some four seconds - and Mitch Evans (Jaguar Racing) in the series' first race as an FIA World Championship. Meanwhile. British driver Sam Bird took victory at his debut event with Jaguar Racing in Round 2, ahead of Robin Frijns (Envision Virgin Racing) in second with DS TECHEETAH’s Jean-Eric Vergne third.
