Tunisia Pavilion’s General Hannibal Greets Visitors to Souk Okaz in Taif Season

The Tunisia Pavilion, being hosted at the 13th Souk Okaz during Taif Season, features a stereoscopic image of Hannibal Barca – the famous Carthaginian military commander. The image features the general on the back of an elephant, the animal he is most closely associated with.

Born on the outskirts of Tunisia, Hannibal belongs to the ancient Punic family and is credited with inventing many tactics of war that are still in use today. One of his greatest achievements was during the Second Punic War, when he made his now-legendary march on Italy by crossing the Alps with his army on African elephants, winning three dramatic battles along the way.

The Tunisian Pavilion also highlights the country’s distinctive architectural style, while visitors hear the Tunisian welcome, and savor its fragrances and music. Tourists can buy the famous Tunisian carpets, made according to methods derived from the country’s Berber heritage, and they can also buy traditional Tunisian footwear, made from local products, including animal skins and silk thread for embroidery. A range of traditional cuisine, with many distinctive flavors, is also available in the pavilion.
